Privacy Policy

BookVoice · Last updated: April 10, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how BookVoice (“we,” “our,” or “us”) handles information when you use our iOS application (“the app”). It is meant to be read together with our Terms of Use and the in-app Legal section (including copyright and acceptable-use rules).

1. What BookVoice does

BookVoice helps you read and listen to books. You can add public-domain and openly licensed works from various online sources, and you can use the camera to scan pages from physical books so the app can read the recognized text aloud. Features such as text-to-speech use system capabilities on your device in support of listening and accessibility.

2. Our approach to privacy

We do not operate an in-app account system with us. We do not run third-party advertising SDKs in the app for behavioral tracking, and we do not sell your personal information. Our business model is a free app with optional BookVoice Pro purchases through the App Store.

3. Information we do not collect on our own servers

We do not ask you to register a BookVoice account. We do not intentionally collect, store on servers we operate, or sell your name, email address, phone number, contacts, or precise location for marketing or profiling. We do not track your reading habits across other companies’ apps or websites for advertising.

4. Data stored on your device

By default, your library (saved books), reading positions, preferences, and related app data are stored locally on your device. Text recognized from camera scans and materials you import are handled as part of providing the listening and reading experience on that device unless you use optional sync described below.

You can delete individual books, clear data where the app provides controls, or remove local data by deleting the app (subject to your device and iOS settings).

5. Optional iCloud sync

If you enable Sync library with iCloud in Settings, your books and saved reading positions may be stored in your personal iCloud account so they can sync across devices signed in with the same Apple ID. That processing is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. We do not receive a separate copy of your iCloud data on our servers.

6. Camera, scans, and listening

BookVoice may use the device camera to scan book pages and to take photos for book covers, as described in the system permission prompt. Scanning and text recognition are used so you can listen to or navigate content on your device. We do not upload your camera images or scanned page content to servers we operate for storage or training.

You are responsible for using the app only with content you are permitted to reproduce or scan under applicable law and the terms of any book or source. Our in-app Terms & Conditions may contain additional detail on copyright and acceptable use.

7. Network use, public-domain sources, and third parties

When you choose to download or open books from online sources (for example Project Gutenberg, Internet Archive, Standard Ebooks, or similar distributors), the app connects to those services to retrieve book content and related assets. Each provider processes technical and operational data under its own privacy policy and terms. The app does not send your name, email, Apple ID, or contact details to those services as part of those requests.

The app may request publicly available book metadata (for example titles or descriptions) from third-party APIs. Those requests are limited to book-related information needed for discovery or display.

Third-party links and services. The app may link to or load content from websites or services we do not control. This Privacy Policy applies only to information handled as described here; it does not govern third-party sites or APIs. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any source or service you use through the app.

The app may fetch a small remote configuration file (for example to determine a minimum supported app version). That request is generic and is not used to identify you personally.

8. Purchases (BookVoice Pro)

If you purchase a subscription or other in-app product, payment and subscription status are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your full payment card number. Apple provides information needed to validate entitlements (for example subscription state) according to Apple’s systems.

9. Security

We design the app so your library and scans stay on your device (and, if you enable it, in your iCloud account) rather than on our infrastructure. Network connections from the app to book sources and configuration endpoints use standard protections where supported by iOS. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure; use the app at your own discretion and keep your device software up to date.

10. Retention and your choices

Data remains on your device (and in iCloud if sync is on) until you delete it in the app, turn off iCloud sync and remove data as appropriate, or delete the app. Because we do not maintain BookVoice user accounts on our servers, there is no separate “account deletion” with us—your primary controls are on your iPhone or iPad and in your Apple ID / iCloud settings.

11. Children’s privacy

The app is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). Parents and guardians should supervise minors’ use of the app and of any online book sources. If you believe we have inadvertently received personal information that raises a concern, please contact us using the details below.

12. International users and your rights

Depending on where you live, privacy laws may give you rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing of personal data, or to object or lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. BookVoice processes little or no personal data on our own systems; most information stays on your device or with Apple (iCloud, App Store). You can exercise many choices directly on your device and through your Apple ID settings.

European Economic Area, UK, and Switzerland: Where GDPR or similar laws apply, our legal bases for any limited processing we describe include performance of our relationship with you (providing the app), legitimate interests (such as app integrity and support), and compliance with law. You may contact us with requests or questions as set out below.

California and similar U.S. state laws: We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are commonly defined for “sale” of consumer data, and we do not use sensitive personal information for inferring characteristics about you for prohibited purposes. California residents may have rights to know, delete, or correct personal information held by a business, subject to exceptions. Because the app is designed to minimize data collection by us, many requests may be limited to information you voluntarily send when you contact support. To exercise rights or ask questions, use the contact method below.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy, unless applicable law requires additional steps.

14. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how BookVoice handles data, contact us through the App Store listing for BookVoice (Support / developer contact) or the support channel listed there.

This page is provided for App Store and web disclosure. The in-app Privacy Policy may use additional or localized wording; together they describe the same overall practices.
